Non scholae sed vitae discimus

Undergraduate Honors Student seeking a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Linguistics and a Minor in Slavic Languages. I am currently enrolled in Hillsborough Community College working towards an Associate of Arts in Political Science in order to transfer to a prestigious four-year university. I like to explore different fields of academia, to learn languages, and to travel around the world.

My arrival in the United States in 2016 presented new obstacles.  I was vulnerable because I could not speak English, but in less than one year, I became completely fluent. Learning languages became my hobby, and I now speak seven languages. I understand the importance of hard work to succeed, and have found true happiness in learning-rich and diverse material such as Noam Chomsky’s theories of linguistics.

During my shared class time with people from many different cultures, I have broadened my views of other people’s perspectives. In school, I began my life-long exploration of new ways of thinking and engagement with people from different backgrounds, cultures, religions, and languages.  I feed my passion for learning and connecting with people from different parts of the world through languages. I have become curious about how people communicate in foreign tongues, and have spent numerous hours after school learning different languages. The more I discover about languages, the more I become intrigued and fascinated by their diverse phonetics.

As a linguistics major, I will further my understanding of the structure of languages, and the decision-making processes of diverse cultures. I also hope to learn as much as I can about language diversity and evolution. With my degree, I will continue my education by attending law school, where linguistics will mold me into a sophisticated lawyer who appreciates various cultures, and can connect with people around the world.
